Prep Tips: Homestyle Pinto Beans & Refried Beans

Our beans have so much flavor even people who think they do not like beans love our Homestyle Pinto Beans! In our family, we are not just content to use beans as a side dish. We feature them in main meals, dips and wonderful snacks.

Quick & Easy Suggestions

  • If you happen to fry bacon, save the fat in the refrigerator and use in lieu of oil in refried instructions – it is wonderful!
  • Beans will become thicker the longer they remain on the heat. If beans become too thick, add a little water and salt to taste.

Healthful Suggestions

  • Weight Watchers® PointsPlus®: 1/2 Cup = 4 Points Hint: Cut your serving size down to 1/4 Cup to save some points for a splurge!
  • For a leaner refried consistency you can heat and smash without using oil per our refried bean instructions. Cook until they become the consistency you desire.

Mama Grande Nachos

Quick & Easy Customer Creation by Steve and Kathrynn (Oak Creek, WI)

Preheat oven on 350°. Lay chips out on a baking sheet, so that they touch each other, slightly overlapping.  Hint: Don’t pile them up too high, you want each chip to have some goodies on it! Layer Chips with leftover La Luna®  Taco Meat, Rice, Beans and Cheese. Bake 5 – 8 minutes or until cheese is melted and ingredients are heated through.  Then top with your favorite fixings, serve and enjoy!  Hint: Nachos are a great way to use up leftovers when there is not enough left for an entire Taco Night…. Plus kids really love finger foods!
